Shopping and Buying Process
What are the steps in the Shopping Process?
Look through our vast vehicle inventory of Avis Vehicles or better yet, tell us about the vehicle you want and we can do the searching for you right up front. You’ll be contacted usually within two hours by a Personal Auto Consultant who will answer your questions, locate a specific vehicle, provide you pricing, trade value and arrange for a view and ultimately take delivery of your car.
Who is the contact?
Every Avis customer deals directly with a specialized, trained Personal Auto Consultant to help guide you through the auto buying process. Auto Consultants are based at central corporate operated centers -- and have direct access to Avis Inventory
I’m not interested in haggling over price. How can I be sure I’m getting a great
deal?
Avis has set very competitive prices on each Vehicle providing you a great price while eliminating the need for the Avis car to be sold at auction incurring additional fees
How long does it take to get a vehicle once the request has been submitted?
Once an on-line vehicle request has been submitted, getting your vehicle can range from the same day to several days based on vehicle availability and the area of the country you are in.
How do I select options on the vehicle?
You can specify your preferred vehicle options when submitting an on-line vehicle request, or at any point after.
Is an on-line deposit required?
A deposit is not required to receive specific pricing or inventory information on-line. A refundable deposit is only required to hold a vehicle.
Where can I take delivery of the vehicle?
Delivery of your vehicle will take place at an AutoNation dealer or, if you prefer, may be delivered to your home or office.
What happens if the make and model of my choice isn’t physically located near my home?
No problem! We'll make arrangements to get you the car you really want.
Am I obligated to purchase the vehicle once I've submitted an on-line vehicle request?
An online vehicle request does not obligate you to buy anything. By submitting your request, you are asking our Personal Auto Guide to contact you to assist you and answer your questions. You are free to stop contact at anytime with no obligations.
What about the condition of the off rental cars being sold? How can I be sure of the maintenance and repair history of the car?
Avis maintains their fleet to manufacturer’s standards. All cars are inspected by an independent inspection company before they are listed for sale, and before you finalize the purchase of your used Avis vehicle, AutoNation will perform a complete safety and quality check for you to review.
What should I look for in a used car?
Our knowledgeable online AutoNation Direct consultant will be happy to help you with any buying questions you may have. Our goal is to help you make an informed buying decision.
What if I don’t like the vehicle?
We will make a vehicle condition report available to you in advance of you making any commitments. AutoNation will perform an additional inspection once the vehicle arrives at one of our delivery centers and full discloser will be made available to you. The vehicle must exceed your expectations or you are not obligated to complete your purchase. Once the vehicle is accepted all sales are final.
What kinds of warranties are available?
You can buy with confidence. Some vehicles will have the remainder of the factory warranty. Check with your AutoNation Direct consultant to verify and to see what extended warranties are available for purchase.
Vehicle Pricing
How can Avis offer such low Prices?
Avis traditionally sells all it’s off rental vehicles at dealer only auctions. By partnering with AutoNation Direct, we are able to make our vehicles available to special groups without added overhead, eliminating the need to send the car to Auction. This creates a great value for you and is a cost effective solution for Avis. By partnering with AutoNation Direct, we can deliver a truly innovative customer friendly experience consistent with the Avis brand
What is the real vehicle selling price?
Vehicles listed on the site have been specially priced with a low, no-haggle selling price. This price is generally the lowest price that we are willing to sell the vehicle for. By eliminating the need to negotiate, you are free to review product specifications and make real price trade-offs without the need to waste time haggling. This makes shopping more pleasant and usually affords better value.
Are there other costs?
Typically the selling prices listed do not include state and local sales tax, handling charges. Since these amounts vary by city, state, consumer, and date, it is not possible to show them on the site. It is always best to contact us to get a specific ''all-in'' price for the vehicle chosen.
Why do prices vary between similar vehicles?
Usually vehicles that appear the same (but are priced differently) have different trim levels or mileage or have been modified with additional equipment. It is best to contact us for the exact equipment on a vehicle selected.
Are the posted prices negotiable?
No. Every vehicle is posted with a no hassle, no haggle price. With Avis and AutoNation Direct, there’s no negotiating and no pressure. The low price we post is the final price. Our goal is to make your purchase easy and enjoyable.
Do you offer financing options?
Yes. Your AutoNation Direct consultant can help answer any financing questions you may have and coordinate all your needs. Just ask for details.

Why should I purchase a rental car?
All Avis late-model vehicles have received regularly scheduled safety inspections and maintenance. Since used cars depreciate at a much slower rate than new cars, buying a used Avis vehicle could save you money.
What vehicle makes are available?
Makes and models are always being added to our “fleet.” This selection often includes a wide selection of makes, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Isuzu, Jeep, Kia, Lincoln, Mercury, Pontiac, Saturn, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and others. A helpful online AutoNation Direct Consultant will be happy to assist you in finding a used car that fits your needs and your pocketbook.
Do you have green vehicles available for purchase?
Yes from time to time they do become available. Just ask one of our helpful online Auto Consultants about our eco-friendly “green machines.”
How many used vehicles are in your fleet?
We offer thousands of used cars, trucks, SUVs and vans. So go ahead and be choosy when it comes to make, model and even color. Just let your AutoNation Direct consultant know what you’re looking for, and they’ll do their best to find it.
How many miles are on a rental car that’s offered for sale?
Mileages will vary. Most vehicles will be sold between 25,000 and 35,000 miles.
What if the vehicle I am interested in is no longer available?
We work hard to update our on-line vehicle listing to match the vehicles available. Though we have thousands of vehicles listed for sale on-line at any given time, a vehicle may be sold at any time. If a vehicle you request is unavailable, please be patient. Chances are additional vehicles have been added which may meet your needs.
Do you sell used vehicles outside the U.S.?
At this time, used Avis vehicles are for sale only through AutoNation Direct’s online sales program in the mainland U.S. Cars may be purchased with U.S. dollars by any qualified global consumer at a local AutoNation dealer. Vehicles will only be delivered within the continental U.S.
Do you offer roadside assistance after I buy a pre-owned Avis car?
No. While Avis offers roadside assistance on our rental cars, this provision does not apply to vehicles purchased through AutoNation.
Trade-Ins
What do I do with my old car? Can I trade it in?
Yes you can! AutoNation Direct will be glad to assist you with your trade-in.
How do you determine the price of my trade-in?
Trade-ins are always based on fair market value and are not impacted by the vehicle you’re buying
Can I sell my car without buying another vehicle from AutoNation Direct?
Absolutely! AutoNation Direct will buy the car or truck you are now driving … NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Simply ask your Personal Auto Consultant for a vehicle appraisal and offer. And, we will buy your car, whether you make a purchase from us or not.
